About Voidling Bound

Voidling Bound is a sci-fi third-person shooter and creature collector from Hatchery Games — a Quebec City studio founded by developers who previously worked on Skylanders and Borderlands. You play as a Space Wrangler who directly controls creatures called Voidlings to cleanse corrupted planets overrun by a parasitic infestation.

The game reinvents the monster-taming genre by putting you inside the creature during combat. Shoot, slash, slam, dash, and unleash ultimates while evolving your Voidlings through branching mutation trees, DNA splicing, and deep research upgrades.

The core gameplay loop is: explore planets and complete missions, rescue and hatch eggs, evolve and breed Voidlings with unique natures and genes, then descend into The Abyss for escalating endgame challenges.

Core Loop

  1. Cleanse corruption on handcrafted planets
  2. Hatch eggs and discover rare Natures
  3. Evolve through mutagen branches and research
  4. Breed and craft gene-spliced builds
  5. Challenge The Abyss with Corrupted DNA Catalyzers

Release Date & Platforms

Voidling Bound launched on June 9, 2026 for PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. Console versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2 are planned for a later date with no confirmed release window yet.

The game launched at $24.99 USD with a 10% introductory discount for the first two weeks. Regional pricing applies on Steam and Epic.

Species Guide

Voidling Bound features multiple playable species, each with unique Primary, Secondary, Melee, Movement, and Ultimate abilities. Every species has two mutation tree branches with different elemental alignments that change abilities and grant a special perk at the end of each branch.

Choosing the right species depends on your playstyle and content goal. Gilick excels at fast exploration farming, Kwipeck rewards skilled melee dash play, and Anami offers a unique turret-and-stamina system for area control.

Species Elements Role Overall Notes
GilickDraconic, Cryo, Organic, CyberRanged DPS / MobilitySStrong slam range for farming; excellent for egg and research point runs.
KwipeckBlazestrider, Melee, Organic, CyberMelee / Dash DPSAHigh mobility with teleport combos; strong with melee/defensive research.
AnamiOrganic, CyberArea Damage / TurretAInfinite jumps costing stamina; turret-linked sustain and AoE pressure.
MorfangPlasma, CyberHybrid DPSBBalanced kit with solid elemental coverage for mid-game progression.
PackuranPlasma, CyberUnavailableKnown species not yet available in the current release.
VexorVariousSupport / ControlBUtility-focused species for crowd control and debuff setups.
SkarnVariousTank / SustainBHigher survivability builds for boss encounters and Abyss runs.

Evolution & Builds

Evolution happens in the Evolution Chamber using Mutagens. Each species has two branching mutation trees with different elements. Progressing down a branch changes your Primary and Secondary abilities and unlocks a powerful Mutated Perk at the tree's end.

Leveling grants attribute points across five stats: Strength (damage), Vitality (health), Essence (ability power), Recuperation (stamina recovery), and Agility (speed and dash). Research Points unlock nodes in the ability research tree for deeper upgrades.

Attribute Points

  • Strength — Increases attack damage and melee effectiveness
  • Vitality — Increases maximum health and survivability
  • Essence — Boosts ability power and elemental effects
  • Recuperation — Improves stamina recovery for more dashes and abilities
  • Agility — Increases movement speed, dash distance, and attack speed

Popular Community Builds

  • Draconic Gilick — Rush Air Slam with Lethal Refresh for fast egg and research farming
  • Blazestrider Kwipeck — 50/50 Strength/Agility melee dash with max melee and defensive research
  • Anami Turret — Stamina-linked turret placement for sustained AoE in arenas

Breeding & Natures

Discover new Voidlings by rescuing eggs from infested locations. Eggs can spawn at large flower pods and hidden points throughout exploration zones. Hatching may yield rare Natures that significantly boost a Voidling's potential beyond its base species.

Breeding combines Natures and attributes from parent Voidlings to create stronger offspring. You can also release extra Voidlings for Research Points — basic specimens grant around 150 points, while rarer Natures grant substantially more.

Gene collection lets you customize body parts, colors, eye genes, and ability genes. Use your gene library to craft unique Voidlings that combine discoveries from across your playthrough, unlocking synergies impossible with a single evolution path.

Farming Tip

Skip non-essential fights during egg runs. Kill enemies along your route but prioritize reaching egg spawns quickly. Gilick's slam mobility can skip entire sections on many maps.

Items & Resources

Resources drive every progression system in Voidling Bound. Understanding what to collect — and when to spend it — separates efficient runs from wasted expeditions.

Item Purpose
EggsHatch new Voidlings; found in infested zones and flower pods.
MutagensUnlock evolution branches and elemental alignments in the Evolution Chamber.
Research PointsUpgrade abilities and unlock nodes in the research tree.
NaturesRare traits from hatching that boost stats; combinable through breeding.
GenesBody parts, colors, eyes, and ability genes for crafting custom Voidlings.
Corrupted DNA CatalyzersEndgame stat boosters for Abyss builds; push stats beyond normal caps.
Mutated PerksPowerful end-of-tree bonuses that change how a Voidling plays.

Maps & Planets

Voidling Bound features handcrafted planets with diverse biomes, enemy factions, and mission structures. Story missions guide you through core mechanics while replayable arenas and off-quest zones offer farming opportunities.

Exploration areas do not require clearing every wave to progress — you can move to the next section once objectives are met. This is critical for speed-farming eggs and research materials.

Zone Type Description
Tutorial SectorsStoryIntroduces binding, combat, evolution, and egg rescue mechanics.
Planet Surface ZonesExplorationHandcrafted biomes with corruption cleansing objectives and side arenas.
Replayable ArenasChallengeWave-based combat for resources, research points, and rare drops.
Infested DepthsExplorationHigher-density enemy zones with increased egg and mutagen spawns.
The AbyssEndgameProcedural descent with escalating threats and catalyst rewards.

The Abyss Endgame

The Abyss is Voidling Bound's endgame mode. After each victory, you choose to descend deeper against greater threats for better rewards, or retreat to safety. Each floor escalates enemy density, modifier intensity, and loot quality.

Corrupted DNA Catalyzers are key Abyss equipment. These push your Voidling's statistics beyond normal caps, enabling builds that can handle the deepest floors. Plan your catalyst loadout before committing to a deep run.

Community strategies recommend mastering one species's full mutation tree before pushing deep Abyss layers. Gilick and Kwipeck builds with completed research trees are popular for early Abyss progression.

Abyss Strategy

Retreat when a floor's modifiers counter your build. Re-enter with adjusted catalyzers and a different elemental branch rather than forcing a bad matchup.
